Course of the study and examination regulations
Normally your finish your studies in Egyptology with “Magister Artium” (M.A.); there are a few Universities where you can directly finish with “Doctor of Philosophy” (PhD). Depending on every federal state and University intermediate examination can be mandatory (usually after 4 semesters), also the requested language skills (Latin, Greek) can be different. The duration of semesters you have to study is at least 8 semesters, but mainly 10 semesters and more. The possibility of distance study does not exist.During your studies you attend lectures and seminars from all fields of Egyptology (archaeology, philology, art history, history, and study of religions). As a general rule acknowledgment of different steps in Egyptian language are mandatory (Old Egyptian, Middle Egyptian, Late Egyptian, Coptic and in parts Demotic). As far as our experience goes the language courses absorb a great part of the studies and time. Meanwhile almost all Universities are in progress of changing due to Bologna Process with its changes to "Bachelor" and "Master", to harmonize the studies within Europe and to standardize them (http://www.bmbf.de/de/3336.php)).
