Internet Resources

The following Internet databases are available for research into Classical Studies.

Bavarian State Library, Munich: KIRKE

 KIRKE presents the user with free access to Internet resources for Ancient History and Classical Philology. This relates to a collection from the Latin Department of the Humboldt University, Berlin, which is one of the oldest and broadest collections of its type worldwide. As a result of the project partnership with Propylaeum, this collection has been linked with and therefore expands the catalogue of Internet resources compiled by the Bavarian State Library in Munich, especially for the areas of Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Byzantine Studies and Pre- and Early History. The core of KIRKE will continue to be administered in Berlin and as part of Propylaeum will be uniformly reprocessed at regular intervals. The reprocessing involves an addition to the existing catalogue, whereby each web-site is recorded according to librarianship standards, in order to meet the expectations not only of libraries, but also the subject specialist.

Heidelberg University Library: SISYPHOS

SISYPHOS offers both the academic and the layperson a subject guide with a comprehensive selection of Internet resources for Egyptology, Ancient Near Eastern Studies and Classical Archaeology, including subject portals, picture databases, search engines and mailing lists.

Users therefore have access to a comprehensive selection of Internet resources which are professionally maintained and regularly updated.  Each website is recorded in accordance with standards of librarianship, including details of author and/or editor, language, authorized keywords and a summary of content. The links are controlled by use of a link checker.
