Zusammenfassung:
"Archaeological and material remains can transform the teaching of antiquity. Archaeological excavations have uncovered many of the key places mentioned in the texts of antiquity. The material remains provide flesh and blood to the bones of the texts, bringing to life the ancient world of the texts. We know now much more than ever before about the ancient world, but unfortunately, this material is largely inaccessible to most students. Most of the material is published in highly technical archaeological reports, and the material that is accessible is usually presented in static, fragmentary, two-dimensional photographic images. Because of the inherent limitations of this medium, students and non-specialist scholars alike often have difficulty orienting these images in a real-world perspective. The Virtual World Project addresses this problem. New technologies have emerged that enable us to create interactive and virtual reality images of archaeological remains to make the ancient world accessible to a wide audience."
