The first CAP 2018 International Conference will be held at Heidelberg University (Germany),
Friday to Sunday, October 5 – 7, 2018.
The theme of the conference is addressed to the whole spectrum of disciplines involved in CAP
areas of research, including - but not limited to - Classical Studies, Archaeology, Engineering,
Material and Environmental Sciences, Architecture, Economics. The conference pursues four objectives
- (1) to bring together professionals from a wide range of disciplines, offering the opportunity tomeet, exchange, network, share and collaborate with colleagues from all over the world;
- (2) to increase research and project awareness;
- (3) to explore and demonstrate the practical benefits of archaeology for today's society;
- (4) to support interdisciplinary participation in developing solutions to pressing societal problems;
The demand for innovative solutions to current societal problems is on a constant rise. Classical
Studies, Archaeology, and related fields provide extensive, yet underutilized potential to help
solve such problems in interdisciplinary contexts.
We would like to invite professionals who are exploring or already applying innovative solutions
to current problems by including ancient knowledge and technologies.
The conference will be accompanied by a newly founded think tank dedicated to the exploration
of the prospects and further development of the emerging interdisciplinary research area of
CAP.
Papers and Deadlines
The presentation of individual papers is organised in 20 minute talks with additional 10 minutes
for immediate questions and discussion.
The call for papers is open until May 1st 2018. Please send an abstract in English or German of
a maximum of 500 words to: kirsten.dzwiza@uni-heidelberg.de.
General Information
The conference will start on friday evening with an overview of current projects and research in
the field of CAP, followed by a joint dinner for participants. Saturday and sunday will focus on 16
presentations in six sessions, with time slots for a more in-depth discussion inbetween sessions.
The conference will be followed by a newly installed think tank to which every speaker is invited.
Publication
The conference funding includes the publication of the presented papers in print as well as
electronically.
