23.-24. Juni 2026: GegenStand. Objekte zwischen Performanz, Präsenz und Affordanz

20. May 2026, Ansgar Teichgräber - Veranstaltungen

GegenStand. Objekte zwischen Performanz, Präsenz und Affordanz
Interdisziplinäre Nachwuchstagung
Tübingen, 23.–24. Juni 2026

18.–19. Juni 2026: Tübinger Topos-Tage. Dimensionen und Facetten des Topos-Begriffes

20. May 2026, Ansgar Teichgräber - Veranstaltungen

Tübinger Topos-Tage. Dimensionen und Facetten des Topos-Begriffes
Interdisziplinäres Nachwuchssymposion
Tübingen, 18.–19. Juni 2026

21–22 May 2026: Grape Impressions: The Representation of Vines and their Products in Antiquity

18. May 2026, Ansgar Teichgräber - Veranstaltungen

Grape Impressions: The Representation of Vines and their Products in Antiquity
International conference
Tübingen, 21–22 May 2026

The history of domesticating the vine and consuming wine has long been accompanied by numerous and varied representations of the plant and its grapes, apparently from the very beginning of this
process. Over time, depending on the function and purpose of the individual representation of the vine, stylised or more detailed depictions have been created, descriptions (literary or scientific) have been written, symbolic values have been attributed to the plant and its fruits, and literary anecdotes and stories have been created regarding their effects, not to mention the associated culture and activities (such as the symposium or bibulousness) and (ir)responsible divinities. This conference aims to explore the representation of the vine in antiquity in relation to the social and anthropological functions of drinking wine, the development of ampelography as a scientific discipline, the use of the plant and its products in agriculture and medicine, the development of an aesthetic taste, and the attribution of symbolic/metaphorical meanings to the vine.

Conference Locations
Day 1: Keplerstr. 17, Room 34 (3rd Floor).
Day 2: Hegelbau, Wilhelmstr. 36, Philologisches Seminar, Großer Übungsraum (Ground Floor).

22 May 2026: Digital Frontiers: Artificial Intelligence and the Study of the Ancient World

13. May 2026, Ansgar Teichgräber - Veranstaltungen

Digital Frontiers: Artificial Intelligence and the Study of the Ancient World
International Workshop
Vienna/hybrid, 22 May 2026

The rapidly advancing field of generative Artificial Intelligence is opening new frontiers for research in the Humanities, including the study of the ancient world. In recent years, Large Language Models (LLMs) have achieved high performance across a wide range of natural language tasks, enabling complex engagement with texts and facilitating analysis of large archival collections. Some models now have multimodal capabilities, allowing them to process images and embedded text, including the decipherment of handwriting, expanding opportunities for research on historical documents. At the same time, these powerful tools present challenges, such as lack of transparency and the generation of plausible but inaccurate outputs. This event brings together scholars and students of AI, Digital Humanities, and the study of antiquity, to explore both the challenges and the new research opportunities offered by generative AI. The program will include a practical workshop and Q+A session with AI expert David Smith.

Venue
Otto Wagner-Postsparkasse, Georg Coch-Platz 2, 1010 Wien, Seminarraum 2+3, 3. Stock

It offers students and PhD candidates a safe, collegial and academically stimulating environment in which they can present their own research projects for discussion in the form of presentations, short presentations or posters. The aim is to use this as a basis for engaging in dialogue, receiving feedback, developing new perspectives and establishing professional contacts.

Archäologische Berichte, Bd. 37 - neu als Propylaeum-eBOOK

12. May 2026, Katrin Bemmann - Latest
