Intersectionality in Ancient and Pre-Modern Contexts. Considering Aspects of Privilege and Marginalisation
International Conference
Basel, 11–12 June 2026

While intersectional approaches are well established in the social sciences, their application to ancient and pre-modern contexts remains mostly unexplored. Questions of identity and the marginalisation of specific groups are gaining increasing importance in ancient and pre-modern studies as well. The conference aims to bring together scholars who apply concepts of intersectionality to ancient and pre-modern contexts or wish to explore its potential within these often fragmentary and elite-focused sources.
