We are pleased to invite submissions for the upcoming Cremations in Archaeology Conference (CiA 2026). The Cremations in Archaeology conference 2026 in Vienna will be jointly organized by the University of Vienna, the Natural History Museum in Vienna and the Austrian Archaeological Institute of the Academy of Sciences. Academics, professionals and graduate students are encouraged to contribute their latest research findings on cremated human remains, their archaeological contexts and scientific approaches to this dynamic forum.

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstract Length: 200–300 words
  • Submission Email: Please send your abstracts to CiA2026Vienna@gmail.com.
  • Required details to include in your submission:
    • Title of the contribution
    • Full names of all authors
    • Affiliations of all authors
    • E-mail addresses of all authors
  • Indicate your preference for either presentation Format:
    • 15–20 minute oral presentation, or
    • A1 poster presentation.

Deadline: Please submit by 30 April 2026.
The Scientific Committee will review all submissions after the deadline, accept and/or ask for adjustments, and make the final decisions regarding the presentation format. While we will strive to accommodate your stated preference, please note that due to program constraints, some oral presentation requests may need to be reassigned as poster presentations. The final conference programme will be published and circulated in the summer of 2026.
