ConTrA 2027 – Reconstructing Antiquity
Knowledge, Imagination and the Making of the Ancient World
Cologne, 19 February 2027

The second edition of ConTrA – Current Contexts and Transformations of Antiquity will take place on 19 February 2027 at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Cologne.

Under the title Reconstructing Antiquity: Knowledge, Imagination and the Making of the Ancient World, the conference explores how antiquity is reconstructed, interpreted and transformed across academic, medial and public contexts. We invite contributions from archaeology, history, museum studies, media studies, game studies and related fields addressing the relationship between evidence, knowledge, imagination and creative transformation.

Possible topics include archaeological and scholarly reconstruction, museums and heritage interpretation, digital and analogue games, film, literature, comics, art, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, reenactment and other forms of contemporary engagement with antiquity.

Please submit an abstract of no more than 400 words by 15 November 2026 to:

Presentations should not exceed 30 minutes.
