34th Meeting of the AG-Mesolithikum
Intercultural contacts during the Late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic periods
Cologne, 20-22 March 2026
Deadline for submission: 7 January 2026
The event is organised by the Department of Prehistory at the University of Cologne. The conference will take place on the university premises in Cologne-Lindenthal. 30 minutes are suggested for presentations, including questions and discussion.
General lectures on the Late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic periods are planned, as well as lectures focusing on the topic of ‘Intercultural contacts during the Late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic periods’. This focus will be on possible contacts between different, contemporary traditional groups and their significance. The aim is to discuss relationships between individual Late Palaeolithic or Mesolithic groups and between those that span the Stone Age periods (Late Palaeolithic – Mesolithic; Mesolithic – Neolithic). A public evening lecture on palaeogenetics and a keynote speech on the definition of cultural units during the Stone Age will provide important foundations for the lectures and the general discussion.
